Water lines are an important part of any home or business. They supply fresh water to our homes and businesses and are a critical part of our infrastructure. Most water lines are buried underground, out of sight and out of mind, until there is a problem.

When a water line breaks, it can be a major headache (and expense!) to repair. So how deep should a water line be buried?

Most water lines are buried between two and four feet underground, although the depth can vary depending on your location and the type of pipe being used. In general, shallower depths are better because they’re less likely to be disturbed by digging or other activities. However, if your soil is very sandy or has a high water table, you may need to bury your water line deeper to avoid problems.
